WRONG Player safety - especially in relation to head injuries and concussions - is a hot topic in the media, and the NFL officials will also claim that it's a hugely important issue that needs looking at, but has there been any change? Concussions were up by more than 50% during the 2014 Pre-season as opposed to the year before, and more than 5,000 retired players are on the verge of receiving up to $5 million each in compensation for problems and diseases they now face as a result of playing in the NFL. The average settlement amount per player could be around $190,000, though more severe cases will hit that multi-million dollar figure, taking the overall cost to the NFL over $1 BILLION.
