10 Biggest Sporting Failures Of 2012

6. Blackburn Rovers

blackburn rovers When the Venky's purchased Blackburn Rovers in November 2010 they promised big things. Instantly there was talk of the arrival of Ronaldinho and other marquee signings. Needless to say this never materialised. The owners went on to sack Sam Allardyce, who had previously led the side to tenth in the league and a League Cup semi final the season before. His replacement was Steve Kean, and we all know how that ended. The Rovers endured an absolutely terrible 2012, with the side being relegated from the Premier Division. It marked a remarkable fall from grace for the Lancashire side, who had won the Premier League in 1995 - something which now seems a distant memory for many fans.

5. The Disqualified Badminton Players of London 2012

china badminton If there was one moment which marred the London Olympics, then it was this one. In what was a celebration of sport the badminton players of China, Indonesia and South Korea reminded everyone of how far athletes are willing to go to win. All four pairs (including two from South Korea) attempted to lose their matches, in order to ensure they had a better draw in future rounds. In the match between China's Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli and South Korea's Jung Kyung-eun and Kim Ha-na, the longest rally was four shots. Four shots! Unsurprisingly all four pairs were thrown out on the grounds that they had "not used one's best efforts to win". All three nations appealed the decision but the verdict stood and in doing so a potential blemish on London 2012 was wiped away.
