10 Biggest Sporting Failures Of 2012

4. Mark Hughes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOEhGbkP6KY When Mark Hughes parted company with Fulham in 2011 because he claimed they were not a big enough club, many eyebrows were raised. When he proceeded to take up the QPR hot seat some six months later, people's eyebrows were so far raised they had left their heads. Hughes managed to save the R's from relegation and this resulted in a summer spending spree, with over ten players making their way to Loftus Road. However the new signings seemed to have little impact and QPR endured a miserable start to the season, failing to secure a single victory in their first 12 games. He was sacked by the end of November. I wonder how much Hughes' regrets leaving an 8th placed Fulham side who were about to embark on Europa League football.

3. The McLaren F1 Team

button walsh It was a season to forget for team McLaren. Not only did they fail to win the driver's or constructor's championships, they also lost their number driver - Lewis Hamilton. The team's season can be summed up in one word, reliability. Time after time McLaren were unable to finish the race, with this supposedly one of the reasons Hamilton decided to leave. Furthermore neither Hamilton or Button were able to even finish in the top three of driver's championship. Indeed it was the returning Kimi Raikkonen who claimed third place in one of the most eventful seasons. It was agreed amongst pundits that McLaren arguably had the best car in the pit lane, a fact that will only make the pain of failure in 2012 even more excruciating.
