Arjen Robben is incredibly unlucky to be playing football in the era he is doing. In truth, he belongs to the Dutch sides of the 1970s and 1980s, the philosophers and professors of "Total Football". He's sensational in terms of his technical ability, and is without doubt the maverick that makes the Dutch tick. He'll be a player that retires without ever (probably) winning a Ballon D'Or, due to the dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. That doesn't mean he's not one of the best players in the world, though - anyone who is influential in a treble-winning season with Bayern Munich automatically has to be considered one of the best. And his form at the beginning of this World Cup is similarly brilliant, with Robben undoubtedly the man of the match against Spain. That will have felt sweet for Robben, after his Netherlands side came desperately close to winning the event back in 2010 before being sunk by the Spanish. And if they canter through their group (as they well should after that first result), the odds look good for the Dutch to go deep once again in the World Cup. Best player at Brazil 2014 so far? Look no further than the Dutch magician, Arjen Robben. Is his name finally on the trophy this year?
