10 Biggest UFC Main Event Flops

2. Ken Shamrock vs. Dan Severn 2 (UFC 9)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqQE4fy0BwM In the days before Zuffa purchased the dying UFC and resuscitated it, to the delight of fans and the dismay of John McCain, the much wilder format of the early cards led to some unpredictable fights. UFC 9 was the first of the company's cards to not feature a tournament, and the main event was a rematch between Superfight champion "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock and number one contender Dan "The Beast" Severn. A legal battle forced UFC to conduct this card with modified rules, including no closed fist strikes to the head. Apparently the Detroit court official were big pro wrestling fans. This rule takes part of the blame for the much-anticipated fight being so dismal. Despite UFC officials being willing to overlook closed fist punches with little more than a warning, Shamrock allegedly told referee John McCarthy that he would not violate the rules in order to be a good example for the youth in his father's boys' home. The bout has been called the most boring fight in MMA history, and it's hard to argue the point. There was hardly any damage beyond a small cut, and a lot of circling and...circling. And standing around, too. Can't forget that. I could go on and on, but there's really no point. It's just dreadful.
