10 Biggest World Cup 2014 Flops

3. Cristiano Ronaldo

The stage was set. Fresh from his shirt-ripping exploits against Athletico Madrid, he was ready to become his country€™s catalyst, and lead them into battle. Without an international honour to his name, the current Fifa Ballon d€™Or winner would haul his side through the game stages, just as he did in that remarkable play-off with Sweden, on their way to achieving the impossible dream. What happened instead was an entirely different matter. Cristiano spent the first match sulking about how his Portuguese team-mates were of such an inferior standard to what he was used to, as the efficient Germans crushed them 4-0. Matchday Two didn€™t fare much better, as Portugal scrambled for a 2-2 draw with the United States. The final game was set for the £80 million star to save his country, but he only served to fluff a host of chances against Ghana, leaving us with the familiar sight of tear-stained cheeks upon the sounding of the full-time whistle.
