Four years is a long time in sport. In 2010, Casillas was undoubtedly the greatest goalkeeper in the world, and could lay claim to every international honour known to man. Four years later, and there are calls for the Real Madrid club legend to be ousted from the Spanish national side after 14 years between the sticks. While Casillas pocketed his second Champions League winners medal in May, he still cant command a regular starting spot for his boyhood club, and may have to seek pastures new if he is to revitalise his career. His lack of match sharpness was alluded to in the Champions League final as he misjudged the flight of the ball for Diego Godins opener, but it was ruthlessly exposed time and time again throughout the World Cup finals. There was something poignant about watching one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the game unapologetically punished for a string of errors, as the Netherlands and Chile capitalised. Conceding seven goals in two games is an unheard of statistic for a man who went the entirety of the 2010 World Cup with a concession rate of just two goals.
