10 Boyhood Everton Fans The Club Should Have Signed

7. David Thompson

David Thompson spent seven years of his life on the books at Liverpool, before carving out a modest mid-table career before injuries forced an early retirement in 2007.

However, when fit he was a marvellous footballer and was a fine player for the Reds. Not only that, but he was also an Evertonian. The Toffees nearly sealed a deal for Thompson whilst he was at Coventry City, only for the move to break down.

The midfielder may have been plagued by a series of chronic injuries but on his day, Thompson was an asset and could boast a deliciously whipped free-kick in his arsenal.

In the days where David Moyes was attempting to wrestle the Merseyside club out of the doldrums of 17th place, where they were forced to rely on the bargain basement signings such as Marcus Bent and Kevin Campbell, bringing Thompson back home could have been an inspired signing. That is if he sorted out his dodgy knee.
