10 Candidates For BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012

7. Ellie Simmonds (Swimming)

A real stand out for Team GB during the Paralympics. Ellie won her first and second Olympic gold at the tender age of 13. Her medal haul of two gold, one silver and one bronze in the pool at the London games is even harder to ignore, especially when she set two world records in the process as well. Ellie is a true inspiration to all who have had the privilege to see her perform. She, along with many other Paralympians, has helped elevate the profile of disabled sport with her dedication and drive to win. A previous Young Sports Personality of the Award winner in 2008, 2012 could be her year to go one better.
