10 Controversies The UFC Wants You To Forget

4. Head Butts

It's hard to find a specific example but there were several times in the early UFC that head butts were utilized as a means to either knockout or damages opponents. These were popular among the early wrestlers who dominated the UFC at one point. Mark Coleman was one such fighter to use head butts as part of his pioneering the ground and pound techniques. For those wrestlers it was simple because they could use their foreheads against fighters not used to butting heads like wrestlers. Needless to say it was dangerous. This became one of the driving factors by critics that forced the UFC to enforce more rules to avoid being banned. It was understandable considering it's a dangerous technique for both fighters involved. It's for this reason that they were banned at UFC 15. Today it's an illegal technique that can result in disqualification or no contest. The majority of the time it's unintentional.
