10 Coolest Clubs In World Football

The coolest football club in Europe could only come from Germany. From their all brown kit, to their progressive politics and their unofficial use of the Skull and Crossbones as their badge; St. Pauli’s coolness comes from the fact that they just don’t care what anyone else thinks. They’re basically the footballing equivalent of punks.

Situated in a notoriously poor area of Hamburg, St. Pauli’s fans were originally a mix of working class industrial workers and local artists; the club is a hodge podge of rebels and anarchists. They were the first German club to ban neo-Nazis, the first to champion gay rights and they have a set of fundamental principles which dictate how the club should be run declaring that the club has a social responsibility to its local district and that tolerance is one of the founding pillars of the team.

Across their history they haven’t won a lot of silverware and they currently sit in the German Second Division, but St. Pauli are one of those rare teams that transcends sport. They’re living, breathing proof that football is not just a game.

Sometime Brummie with a love for tea, tequila and football teams that don't win a lot of games. Still don't really understand apostrophes.
