The man who many believed could simply not be defeated was out cold on the canvas and no one could believe it.
The punch wasn't pretty or flashy, but it was effective and that's what made it so spectacular. To think that a man many considered to be an MMA god would get taken out anything other than the greatest strike ever seen by the human eye seemed unfathomable but that's what happened.
Silva's first title and knockout loss was partly down to what many people who watched him loved about him as a fighter. His incredible ability to dodge and duke away effortlessly from strikes was somewhat like a Roy Jones Jr. in his prime, but it wasn't enough to get him away from Weidman's relentless pressure and power punching. Eventually the 'All American' clobbered him and silenced the once raucous Brazilian contingent who had come to see their hero fight.
