10 Darkest Spurs Moments Of The Premier League Era
9. The Futility Of Finishing Fourth
In the 2011-12 season, Spurs finished fourth in the Premier League for the second time in three years. In 2009-10, they did so for the very first time and embarked on a memorable and admirable Champions League campaign the following season. The club won their group - a group which had Inter Milan, Werder Bremen and FC Twente in it - knocked AC Milan out in the first knockout round and ultimately lost to Real Madrid in the quarter finals. So, imagine their disappointment when they thought they'd qualified again, only for sixth placed Chelsea to actually win the Champions League that season and take the fourth English spot. It was truly heartbreaking and felt like a waste of a season's hard work - and they haven't qualified for the Champions League since.
