10 Former Players West Ham Could Do With Now

8. Valon Behrami

It€™s a shame that Swiss midfielder Valon Behrami was never able to realise his undoubted potential in the Premier League having arrived from Lazio in a £5 million during the summer of 2008. The reason, of course, was because of a horror injury that he sustained in March 2009 - an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee that left him sidelined for six months. He played just under 60 times for the Hammers during his three years in the capital before returning to Italy in the summer of 2011. If anybody has documented the 29 year old€™s career since, they would know that he is an astute commandeer of the ball and a fine technician. He has since played for both Fiorentina and Napoli, and now finds himself at Hamburg. The 2014 World Cup was Behrami€™s fourth international tournament, having appeared in the previous two World Cups and at Euro 2008. While his former club aren€™t exactly clawing for another central midfielder following the arrival of Alex Song from Barcelona on a loan deal, he would still be a healthy addition to their squad. His left knee probably feels that there is unfinished business at Upton Park anyway.
