In 2010, Césc Fabrégas was the third best midfielder in the world. Fabrégas was a leader for Arsenal and looked destined to become an all time premier league great. When Barcelona decided to buy Fabrégas, many expected him to become heir to Xavi's throne, yet three years on, Fabrégas has now been sold to London rivals Chelsea. Fabrégas would have been the perfect replacement for Xavi if Barcelona had given him a chance. Xavi is not the future for Barcelona, Fabrégas might have been. Barcelona have done more harm to Fabrégas than good. He is not the player he once was which will be a worry for Chelsea fans. It's not the first time Barcelona have taken a top class midfielder for granted. Yáyá Toure was a huge presence in midfield for the Spanish giants, yet he was not persuaded to stay when big money offers came in from him. Arguably, Barcelona didn't struggle when he first left but now Toure is the best defensive midfielder in the world and would have been a huge player for them. However, Thiago Alcántara is the biggest loss the club have suffered in recent history. Many believe he has everything needed to become a top class player, but he felt unwanted at Barca and left for Bayern Munich. It is one transfer Barcelona will most definitely regret in the future. Barcelona's transfer policy could come back to haunt them this season but it would be no more than they deserve.
