10 Greatest Central Midfielders In Premier League History

3. Frank Lampard

Media Image LtdMedia Image LtdClubs: West Ham And Chelsea Frank Lampard has scored 251 goals in his club career; take that in for a second. It€™s an unfathomable amount of goals when you consider that he has spent his whole career as a central midfielder. Almost any top class striker would be delighted to score that many goals in their career €“ most don€™t get anywhere near it. The fact that he€™s only third in this list, ridiculous as it may sound given his number of goals, should pay testament to the players above him, rather than be seen as a criticism of Lampard€™s ability; had the 36-year-old claimed the top spot on this list then nobody could have batted an eyelid. With 171 goals he is fifth on the list of all-time Premier League goal scorers, 60 ahead of any other central midfielder, but it is not just his ability to put the ball in the net that makes him such a top player, as he has an exceptional passing range and possesses a particularly dangerous set-piece delivery. But there€™s no doubt that his knack for arriving late into the box and being in the right place at the right time to finish is what has made him such a unique talent over the years. In June, Chelsea confirmed that Frank Lampard would leave the club after 13 years of service, and there€™s no doubt they will miss the former €˜English Player of the Year€™ winner's goals.
