10 Greatest Cult Heroes Who Played For Leeds United

6. Tony Dorigo (1991-1997)

Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1965, Dorigo started his youth career at Aston Villa before joining and making a name for himself at Chelsea. His progress in London attracted the attention of Howard Wilkinson who signed the 26 year old in 1991 for £1.3m in order to solve a problem at left back. It worked. Dorigo went on to become arguably the best left back in the country for several years and cemented himself as a Leeds United 'cult hero' in the process. His blistering pace, timing in the tackle and crossing ability made him a thorn in the side of any opposition; leading to the chant "you'll never beat Dorigo" ringing out throughout terraces during his six year Leeds career. Highlights include a sensational free kick against his former club Chelsea and a tremendous performance and goal that helped Leeds lift the Charity Shield against Liverpool in 1992.
