10 Greatest Cult Heroes Who Played For Leeds United

4. Gordon Strachan (1989-1995)

Probably the most high profile Leeds hero in terms of his previous achievements, the 'wee' Scot came to Elland Road from rivals Manchester United with most suggesting his best years were behind him; something he dramatically proved to be wrong as he lead the club to their first league title in 18 years. Strachan was a key component in a midfield that dominated the division during their title winning campaign of '91-'92, being topped off nicely with him winning Footballer of the Year. His energetic, terrier like displays combined with his experience and vision were likened to the earlier Leeds legend that was Billy Bremner (another slightly built Scot with a big heart), one of several factors that cemented his status as a cult hero. In 1993 he was awarded an OBE and will forever have a place in the hearts of Leeds United fans.
