10 Greatest Footballers Of The 21st Century

8. Thierry Henry

Henry is the greatest player in the history of the Premier League in the eyes of many- fans of Alan Shearer, Ryan Giggs and others may have something to say about that- and he was one of the world's greatest players for five or six years. Having joined Arsenal as a winger from Juventus in 1999, a year after winning the World Cup in his homeland, Arsene Wenger soon saw the potential the young Frenchman had as a striker. After a fairly slow start to life in north London, Henry suddenly came alive. From the 2001/02 campaign up until 2005/06, he never scored less than 30 goals per season, and his incredible pace, quick feet, lethal finishing and eye for the outrageous were simply unplayable. If he was at his best, there was nothing you could do to stop him. Henry was unfortunate that he was sometimes overshadowed by the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho in the battle for 'best player in the world' during that period, and in other eras he would have been widely considered the undisputed number one. He won two Premier League titles with Arsenal, and was named PFA Player of the Year in both 2002/03 and 2003/04. He joined Barcelona in 2007, and thrived alongside Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto'o as the Catalan giants won the 2009 Champions League. His best days were soon behind him, however, and he now plies his trade with New York Red Bulls in America. He was a remarkable striker in his prime.
