10 Greatest Foreign Premier League Players Of All Time

8. Peter Schmeichel

Peter Schmeichel has been easily the best goalkeeper the Premier League has seen, with respect to the likes of Petr Cech, David Seaman and Edwin van der Sar. He moved to Old Trafford in 1991, for just £505,000 from Brondby, and it surely remains one of the greatest pieces of business in English football history. The big Dane quickly established himself as the world's best 'keeper, and he had a dominance and aura about him that both put fear into the opposition and made his defence feel totally at ease. He made crucial saves when it really mattered, was incredibly consistent, and although his teammates may have loathed the rollocking he would give them at times, it was only because he cared so deeply about winning football matches. Schmeichel won the Premier League in 1992/93 and 1993/94, and he was virtually an ever-present throughout. He would win the title three more times before leaving in 1999, as well as three FA Cups and a Champions League. He was a true one-off, and United spent many years trying, and failing, to replace him.
