It's been over twenty years since Souness was on a field as a player, and people are still terrified of him. Rather unfairly, the Scottish midfielder is often remembered for being part of Kenny Dalglish's last great team, setting up the current sad state of affairs that has haunted the team (and their relative dearth of trophies) ever since. Regardless of any back room politics Graeme Souness may or may not have been a party to, when he was on the pitch, he was a force to be reckoned with. During his his seven seasons at Liverpool he won five League Championships, three European Cups and four League Cups after manager Bob Paisley sought reinforcements following the departure of veteran player Ian Callaghan. The gaffer, rather smartly, looked again to the north of our United Kingdom and brought in a trio of Scottish players, with Souness being the most successful transplant to Anfield. Besides doing a pretty decent job at getting all those cups for the squad, Souness proved to be one of the hardest players during on-pitch incidents, like the team he broke the jaw of Bucharest captain Lica Movila, which went unpunished by the referee. He was pretty tough to his teammates too, reportedly "stealing" the captaincy from the incumbent Phil Thompson during the 1981-82 season not that anybody would want to accuse Graeme of that to his face...
