10 Lessons We Learned From UFC On FOX 12

10. The Strawweight Division Is Wide Open

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFPU6fvIX34 Coming into UFC on FOX 12, Julianna Lima was considered one of the better strawweights out there. Left out of The Ultimate Fighter 20 due to a perceived issue with the English language, she was the favoured fighter in the second ever UFC women's strawweight bout. Things didn't play out that way. Instead, she ate some solid shots from the virtually unknown Joanna J™drzejczyk, who was so unheard of coming into the fight the commentary team was struggling to figure out the pronunciation of her name. The fight went to decision, with Lima on the losing end. On top of that, Lima missed weight, and the fight was held at a catchweight of 116.5lbs, with Lima forfeiting 20% of her fight purse to J™drzejczyk (in an interesting turn of events, main event fighter Matt Brown also missed weight by 1.5lbs, but due to an error by the CSAC, did not have to forfeit any money, as he was not given the required second shot at making weight, which Lima was granted).
