10 Most Shocking Red Cards In Premier League History

9. David Prutton - February 26th, 2005

He wasn't known as a particularly dirty player, or one to have a nasty temper, but his actions in February 2005 landed him a hefty 10-match ban. Two straight-forward yellow cards for poor challenges were issued to the Southampton midfielder in their clash with Arsenal at St Mary's, but Prutton wasn't keen on acknowledging the decision. A typical red-mist moment saw the player confront the linesman to berate him for what he saw as a massive injustice. But the 23 year old didn't stop there. Not content with abusing just the one official, he also aimed his volatile abuse at referee Alan Wiley, pushing him out of the way after he had come across to diffuse the situation. In stepped Saints manager Harry Redknapp and eventually the player accepted his fate - along with a 10-match ban and £6,000 fine. Although he did apologise for his conduct, Prutton never really thought his punishment matched the crime.
