4. Junior Dos Santos Injures Hand, Replaced By A Light Heavyweight At TUF Brazil 3 Finale
When it comes to the heavyweights, hand injuries are common. The big guys hit the hardest, so it stands to reason that their hands are pretty vulnerable. Luckily, these sorts of breaks are usually fairly quick to heal, requiring just a few months even with surgery (if necessary). However, when Junior Dos Santos injured his hand this past summer, he had to be pulled from the TUF Brazil 3 finale, where he was scheduled to meet Stipe Miocic. He was replaced with a fellow Brazilian to please the local crowd: Fabio Maldonado. A light heavyweight. The size difference between Miocic and Maldonado was obvious as soon as they stepped into the cage, and Maldonado was quickly knocked out. It was a sham main event, and one has to wonder why the UFC didn't just find a heavyweight, any heavyweight, to fill in for JDS. Brazilians might like to cheer for their own, but they know a mismatch when they see one.
