10. "Official" Merch With Fighter Images Pays Out A Percentage
Along with the uniform deal came news that there would also be merch with fighter's likenesses available to fans via the Reebok deal - and that fighters would be paid 20% for merch sold. Now, that's a good deal for Anderson Silva, maybe. It all depends if that's 20% of the actual sale, or 20% of the UFC's cut. Then consider this: most fighters are not Anderson Silva. Most fighters won't see many shirts sold at all. Is Josh Sammen going to move a ton of t-shirts even after his highlight reel knockout at UFC 181? Selling shirts direct to fans, at least he'd keep more of the profit - or some fighters would, we're just making an example. This may help some fighters, but for others, it may actual hurt their revenue stream as the UFC deal with be in competition with them selling their own walkout shirts etc.
