The NFL is officially registered as a not-for-profit organisation, which makes it exempt from paying tax. Despite the fact that it makes about $9bn each year, more than any other professional sporting body on the face of the earth.

League commissioner Roger Goodell has stated that this is still not good enough, as he believes the league can reach the $25bn annual turnover mark by 2027.
