10 Most Notorious Long Bans In Football History

5. Luis Suarez II - Four Months

His recent ban simply had to be included on this list due to the longevity of it - the big question is, will it be the last time he brings the game into disrepute? Will it even be the last time he bites an opponent? Everyone had seen the Branislav Ivanovic incident, and nobody surely could possibly have thought that the Uruguayan would do something like that ever again, but apparently even the World Cup isn't excused from Suarez's madcap antics, and he effectively destroyed Uruguay's chances of getting past the second round when he locked his teeth into Italy's Giorgio Chiellini. Sure, the Uruguayans got out of the group stage (at the expense of England, of course), but Suarez looked a guilty man when walking off the field at the end of that Italy game, despite his initial insistence that he hadn't done anything wrong, which the officials at the time clearly agreed with as no action was taken. Thankfully for the rest of football, FIFA didn't take the lenient approach many expected them to. Four months still seems light in the eyes of some people, but it has certainly sent a firm message out. The only talking point now is which club Suarez will be playing for when that ban ends - with a Barcelona move looking more likely by the day.
