10 People You Didn’t Know Almost Managed Spurs

1. Sir Alex Ferguson

Former Spurs Chairman Irving Scholar revealed in his book that Spurs could have had one of the best managers of all time in charge at the club in the 1980s - Alex Ferguson. Prior to joining Manchester United - the club with whom he ultimately had unrivalled success - Ferguson had gone as far as shaking hands on the deal while he was still in charge of Scottish club Aberdeen, but would ultimately pull out of it for personal reasons. Scholar said:
Keith Burkinshaw didn€™t want to continue after the end of the season and I had been talking to Alex Ferguson. These conversations had reached the point of agreeing personal terms and we shook hands on a deal. However, he had second thoughts about the matter and decided not to accept my offer. He had a father-son relationship with the Aberdeen chairman and I think, on reflection, he felt he would be letting him down if he left.
The Premier League could have been a very different place over the last twenty two years, had this appointment actually happened!
