During Tim Sherwood's ill-fated spell in charge of Tottenham Hotspur, it was widely reported that the club had agreed a deal with former Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri to replace him. It was understood that a verbal agreement had been reached between Allegri and the Lilywhites - who has personal links to Spurs' Technical Director and fellow Italian Franco Baldini - while the season was still in full swing, but it was expected that no formal announcement would be made until the end of the season as Spurs concentrated finishing as high as possible in the league. It was rumours like these - and the aforementioned Frank de Boer example - that angered Tim Sherwood to the point of speaking out in the media in a critical fashion about the club - a move that only served to cement his fate.
