10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Spurs
10. Ledley King
Ledley King is a Tottenham Hotspur legend. The retired central defender was a rarity in modern football in that he was a one-club player, having spent his entire career at White Hart Lane. He was also, undoubtedly, a superb player and one of the best central defenders England has produced in the modern era. However, he could have been so much better - and that's a truly frightening thought. King's career was severely blighted by a chronic knee injury. Repeated injuries to his knee cartilage resulted in him ending up with no cartilage at all - his knee joint was just bone on bone - and he couldn't actually train. However, when he played, he still managed to perform to a high standard, which led Harry Redknapp to describe him as "a freak". Of course, the extent to which he could play was limited by his condition, but the fact that he could play at all without knee cartilage and without the benefits of training is miraculous. King made well over 300 appearances for Spurs - including 268 in the Premier League - and even earned 21 England caps, scoring two goals. What he could have achieved without his problems is actually quite sad to think about. He is now an official club ambassador.
