10 Players Who Probably Regret Joining Barcelona

5. Keirrison

When a club invests £12 million in you, it's not beyond the realms of possibility to assume that you might be given a couple of chances to wear the shirt during your five year spell with the club. For Brazilian wonderkid Keirrison, however, that was not the case, as he was immediately farmed out on loan to Benfica as soon as his feet touched Catalonian soil in the summer of 2009 - the first of many. An expensive acquisition, the 20 year old was confident in his ability, ready to go about 'fulfilling the dream of playing at the best club in the world'.

The first and last time the Brazilian playmaker has ever donned a Barcelona kit was at his press unveiling five years ago. Not even entrusted with a run-out in a pre-season friendly, Keirrison has spent the last five years on loan at Benfica, Fiorentina, Santos, Cruzeiro, and Cortiba, where he has consistently struggled to make an impact. With his confidence wilting with each passing season, the Keirison who displayed electric and skilful touches at Palmeiras to capture the attention of Barcelona chiefs in 2009 is seemingly gone. The player is only 25, but his career's trajectory has already performed a 360, having signed for Cortiba - the club where it all began - on a free transfer in March.

One can only speculate, but the former Brazilian wonderkid must have felt a great disservice paid to him by the Barcelona hierarchy, having never been entrusted with a single opportunity to stake his claim. With his aspirations and dreams having been ignited in the summer of 2009, ready to follow in the footsteps of his nation's icons Rivaldo and Ronaldinho, he must surely look back on his Barcelona contract with bitterness and angst.
