10 Players Who Probably Regret Leaving Chelsea

7. Joe Cole

Neal Simpson/EMPICS SportNeal Simpson/EMPICS SportJoe Cole enjoyed a successful seven season stay at Stamford Bridge but his career has gone backwards since leaving in 2010. Cole was unveiled as a Liverpool player to much fanfare after his contract was allowed to run down at Stamford Bridge four years ago with his then-new teammate Steven Gerrard claiming the new recruit was "a better player than Lionel Messi". Stevie G must have been drunk at the time and Cole would later admit his move to Anfield was a mistake and that it was one he made because he had no better options. Tottenham had previously made a move for the midfielder when his Chelsea contract expired but the boyhood West Ham fan couldn't bring himself to join his beloved club's London rivals and penned a deal with the Reds. Cole failed to adapt to life on Merseyside and the fans never took to him, and he later joined the Hammers following a loan at Lille.
