1. Darren Bent
Owen Humphreys/PA Archive/Press Association ImagesAs regrets go neither party; Darren Bent nor Sunderland Football Club would like to admit to missing the other. But we fans would begrudgingly admit to it. Since Darren Bents orchestrated move to Aston Villa back in January 2011 after only 18 months at the club, Sunderland have suffered a chronic shortage of goals. On the surface, Bents move was cynical, only made worse by claims by the then England manager, Fabio Capello that the striker had improved after only a weeks training with his new club. However, much to the satisfaction of Black Cats fans, Bents £24m move didnt propel the arrogant forward to the heights he must have hoped. Following his initial half-dozen goals for Villa which had the desired effect of keeping the Villains in the Premier League, Bents golden touch soon after eluded him. Unthinkably, after only months at Villa Park under new management he lost his place in the Villa side to the exciting young prospect, Benteke, before also losing his position in the England setup too. His final months at the Stadium of Light may not have shown him at his most prolific compared to his 25 goals the previous year. Though, at least Steve Bruce played his side to suit Darren Bents strengths as a poacher, even if the striker himself didnt always look interested. His considerable fall from £24m man to Fulham reserve last season has come about quickly. It must also make him regret his choice to ditch the club where he was loved to become a bit-part player at the now relegated London club.
