10 Players Who Regret Leaving Newcastle United

4. Alain Goma

Alain Goma is probably on the list of a number of Newcastle fans as one of a long line of forgettable defenders, but yes, he is another that will definitely regret switching allegiances. Yet another Frenchman, Goma joined from Paris St Germain for just under £5 million in 1999 while Ruud Guillit was in charge.

Despite having a positive impact in the 2000-01 season, he wasn't so sorely missed when he signed for fellow countryman Jean Tigana to help then newly-promoted Fulham in their debut Premier League season, the fact that Newcastle sold him for £4 million is testament to the fact that although he wasn't one of the worst players to have worn the famous black and white stripes, he was also quite a way from being the best.

He had rather a more successful stint at Craven Cottage, captaining the side and making over 100 appearances in five years. However, much like Charles N'Zogbia, his success was at a club that was not even close to being on the same level as Newcastle in terms of stature. His lack of real impact on Tyneside, only playing 33 times, and the fact that he only won two caps for his native France, could be seen as real regrets for Goma.
