1. Being Told 'It's Only A Game'
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D38O4jWXxMs It's the phrase that sparks the anger inside a football fan more than any other. Your team have just lost in the final of the Champions League, they lost the derby or got relegated on the final day; either way you feel worse than you possibly could of imagined, then someone tries to console you with the saying 'it's only a game'. A great man once said "Football's not a matter of life and death, I assure you, it is much more important than that." That man was Bill Shankly and lets face it, he was right. When your team wins everything in your life just seems better, like when England win all the people are going to work with smiles on their faces and all those other cliches. The truth is we get that invested in our teams that when we lose in a high stakes game it does feel like it was a matter of life and death and non football fans will never understand your heartbreak and in such a situation, they should just leave you alone rather than poke you with a stick in the form of this dreadful saying.
