10 Problems Only Sunderland Fans Will Understand

6. Generational Debates

All clubs will have some degree of "old vs new", arguments popping off all over the place about who was the better player, the more brilliant manager, or the most fantastic season. However, on Wearside the generational strife seems to be have been ramped up a few notches by the late-1990s move from Roker Park to the Stadium of Light. The switch now acts as a sort of rallying point for the two sides of the debate, with older fans dismissing their younger counterparts' opinions because they weren't there in those fabled Roker days. According to those who experienced it, nothing can beat the fabled atmosphere of the older ground - the infamous Roker Roar. Occasionally a loud home performance from the fans will be bestowed with the honour of being "close to the Roker days", most recently the 1-0 Di Canio led win over Everton and Borini's thunderbolt against Newcastle. Nobody's dad will stop talking about the Fulwell End either. The South Stand may be rowdy and raucous at times, but it just doesn't measure up apparently.
