10 Reasons The Yankees Vs Red Sox Rivalry Now Sucks

1. The Sox Won The World Series Three Times

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44qaDGuWCEk The overall crux of the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry was the fact that the Yankees had won championships and the Red Sox had not. €œThe Curse of the Bambino€ which had the Red Sox sell Babe Ruth to the Yankees was the aura behind this great rivalry. It€™s what made Bucky Dent and Aaron Boone€™s homeruns the stuff of baseball legend. Not because of the homeruns themselves (although they were timely and single-handedly sent the Yankees to the World Series), but because of the context that the Yankees were blessed and the Sox were cursed. The Sox€™s World Series victory in 2004 (and the way in which they came back down 3-0 to the Yankees in the ALCS) signaled the end of the Curse. Suddenly, there wasn€™t much for Red Sox fans to complain about. There could be no more arguments that the Yankees had a lavish payroll and bought their players, because the Red Sox did the same thing. The Sox fans couldn€™t argue that the Yankees had bandwagon fans anymore, because the Sox now had bandwagon fans of their own. Since 2004, the Yankees have won one World Championship and the Red Sox have won two. The one-sidedness of the rivalry toward the Yankees made rooting for the Sox that much more fanatical. Things are much calmer now, and it€™ll take another long title drought for one team for the fervor to reach that same level again. The Yankees/Red Sox rivalry won€™t be as good as it once was for a very long time to come. Be sure to follow me on Twitter @PocketSeagull.
