10 Reasons To Take Up Running
7. It's Great For Losing Weight
Western society has a bizarre, often unhealthy obsession with weight loss. There's an entire industry built around it, and let's not even get started on the insidious and often toxic fixation the media has on the subject, shaming celebrities and in particular women for their apparently 'imperfect' bodies. It's all a bit strange, and should probably change.
Nevertheless, ignoring aesthetics, there are some genuine medical reasons to consider dropping a few pounds. Obesity is linked to many dreadful afflictions, amongst them heart disease, diabetes, strokes, and several forms of cancer. So if you're tipping the scales just a bit too much, it might be a good idea to act.
Many of us want to take the quick route, but it isn't so simple. Fad diets and miracle substances aren't going to do the hard work for you, and can even be harmful. Whilst healthy eating is paramount, being active is the key.
Yet it doesn't have to be punishingly difficult either. Running is one of the easiest ways to drop weight: you can do it at almost any time, anywhere, and it continues to have an impact even after hanging your shoes up. Even with just an hour spent running spread across a week, you'll soon see that needle dropping.
