Another case of a fighter that wasn't evolving, yet still considered a fringe top ten middleweight. His style was far from fan friendly, but this another case of where great talent trumps dull style. He's still proven that he can overpower his opponents and suffocate them on the fence or ground. His jab has always been solid, along with his utilization of body kicks. When your on a three fight win streak, you should be worried about fighting for a potential title shot rather than losing your job. All of a sudden, Okami gets annihilated by Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in the first round and he is considered done. How can the number six ranked fighter (at the time) be subjected to being fired after one loss? You can call him boring or that he was on his way in becoming a gate keeper. Those are reasonable claims to make when describing Okami. What you can't take away is that he's been successful throughout his career. He's yet to show that he's unquestionably declining as a fighter. That's what made this firing so shocking.
