10 Shocking Liverpool Departures Nobody Expected

1. Kenny Dalglish

Out of all the legends that live on in the Kop, King Kenny stands above all else (except maybe Shankly). During his career as a player, the Scottish forward was part of the irresistible dream team alongside Rush, remaining with the club for a good thirteen years between 1977 and 1990. During that time he scored 118 from 355 appearances, winning six Football League First Divisions, two FA Cups, four League Cups, seven FA Charity Shields, three European Cups and one UEFA Super Cup. He certainly earned that nickname. Dalglish's good reputation was improved further when he became player manager of the team in 1985 after the resignation of Joe Fagan, winning a further three First Divisions, two FA Cups and four FA Charity Shields, before retiring from both positions in 1991. Then he finally returned to Anfield in 2011, and it seemed like the bad patch the team had been through was finally over. It wasn't. In the one season he was in charge, King Kenny somehow undid all his previous good work, making a hash of dealing with the Suárez racism incident, and only managing to place the team eighth in the Premier League. Still, they won the League Cup and reached the FA Cup Final - plus, who could possibly fire Dalglish? Liverpool did. And the aftershocks are still being felt.
