1. Les Ferdinand (Sold To Tottenham Hotspur In 1997)
In 1997 Les Ferdinand was bought by Tottenham Hotspur, the club he supported as a boy, again for £6 million despite reports that Newcastle tried to stop the transfer at the last minute due to Alan Shearer picking up a bad injury. He scored 29 goals in his first season with Newcastle and significantly contributed to the side getting within touching distance of the Premiership title in the 199596 season. His partnership with Alan Shearer was one of the best the club has ever had and the striker grabbed 41 goals in 68 appearances for the club. Newcastle boss at the time Kenny Dalglish, sold Ferdinand alongside Peter Beardsley, Lee Clark and David Ginola and replaced them with ageing stars such as John Barnes, Ian Rush and Stuart Pearce.
