http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3AFmWYZWNE Nikola "Nik" Zoricic was born in Sarajevo, Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and immigrated to Canada when he was young. He was raised in Toronto, where he fell in love with skiing. He originally trained as an Alpine skier, but transferred over to ski cross three years prior to his death. Nik was a solid skier on the World Cup circuit, but he never qualified for the Olympics. His highest achievements were a bronze medal at the Canadian Ski Cross Championship in 2009 and he finished eighth in the World Championships in 2011. On March 10, 2012, Nik was competing in the World Cup in Grindelwald, Switzerland, the 36th event of his career. On the last jump of the race, Nik came out wide, losing control and slammed hard into the safety netting. In the crash he suffered a traumatic head injury and he was airlifted to the hospital but died a short time later from blunt force trauma to the head.
