10 Spurs Players Who Weren't Worth The Hassle

8. Adel Taarabt

It's never a surprise to see Adel Taarabt's name pop up in lists such as these. The mercurial talent possesses a world of skill at his feet, but the application and desire can often be questioned. Having burst onto the scene with a flurry of show-boating tricks, flicks and nutmegs in a rampant 4-0 victory against a dismal Derby County side in 2007, the 18 year old Adel Taarabt had set the precedent for what to expect from him in a Spurs shirt. While the kid was exciting, entertaining and had Spurs supporters on the edge of their seats, he was actively disrespecting the crushed opponents, whilst ignoring his more established colleagues when in possession. For the Moroccan kid, this was the Adel Taarabt show. The subsequent managers were less enthused, and Taarabt was afforded just six more attempts to stake his claim in a Spurs shirt, before a couple of loan deals to Queens Park Rangers were organised. It was reported that Taarabt had grown unhappy with Juande Ramos' continuous overlooking of his talents, and had been making grumbling noises from within the Spurs camp. In a needless move only to alienate any bond he may have still had with the White Hart Lane supporters, he stated in 2010 that his move to White Hart Lane had been a 'mistake', that he should have instead signed for Arsenal, and that his ambitions lay with one of the top four in Spain for next season - providing Spurs agree to sell him. After vowing never to return to White Hart Lane, it looks like Taarabt will have to pencil in yet another visit in his diary with QPR this season.
