3. Steven Pienaar
The first time Everton signed Steve Pienaar - on loan from Borussia Dortmund and later on a permanent contract - it was a shrewd bit of business on David Moyess part. The second time they snapped him up, it was the case of a player who thought he was too big for the club being given the chance to come crawling back. The South African was one of Evertons greatest assets during the 2009-10 season, a creative talent along the left wing who developed an almost telepathic relationship with wing-back Leighton Baines. His development at Goodison didnt go unnoticed, and he chose to leave the club in favour of a move to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2011. His time at White Hart Lane was marred by injuries and below-par performances, and it wasnt long before he was packed off back to Everton on loan, an agreement that was followed by a permanent deal worth more than what Spurs initially paid for him. Admittedly, Pienaar hit the ground running in his second spell at Everton and picked up where he left off - but it isnt often a player is given a second chance at a club he shunned.
