10 Strangest Ever Everton Signings

2. Peter Beardsley

Not many players have crossed Merseyside€™s great red-blue divide, so needless to say it turned a few heads when Everton snapped up the revered Peter Beardsley from city rivals Liverpool in 1991 for a fee of £1 million. Not only was Beardo a fan favourite at Anfield, he was the first player to join the Toffees from the Reds since Alan Harper made the unthinkable switch 12 years earlier. Beardsley scored 25 times in 81 appearances for Everton, although the team struggled in the top flight and failed to make an impact in cups competitions during his time there. He finished as the Toffee€™s top scorer during his first season as a blue. A cash-strapped Everton parted company with Beardo in 1993 when another of his other former clubs Newcastle came calling and offered £1.5 million for the 32-year-old.
