10 Strangest Ever Liverpool Signings

2. Paul Konchesky

Paul Konchesky, the last of the Hodgson-signed quartet in this list, was even worse than the aforementioned trio of Jones, Cole and Poulsen. When it was announced that he would be making the move from Fulham to Liverpool, fans didn't really know whether to laugh or cry. The Reds were suddenly being managed by a mid-table manager, and he was bringing mid-table players with him. Konchesky can probably be described as a solid professional at best, and one whose career has been very forgettable, with all due respect. He had represented Charlton, West Ham and Fulham- he also had a very average loan spell at Tottenham briefly in 2003- and been nothing more than a fairly dependable left-back. For him to suddenly be playing for Liverpool was, therefore, laughable. He made his debut in September 2010, and his performances were just not up to scratch. His error allowed Aaron Lennon to score a late winner against Spurs at White Hart Lane, while he was sarcastically cheered off the pitch when substituted in an inexcusable home defeat to Wolves. As soon as Dalglish replaced Hodgson the two-time capped England international- not sure how that ever happened- joined Nottingham Forest on loan. His move to Liverpool was an incredibly strange one.
