10 Strangest Ever Liverpool Signings

9. Brad Jones

Roy Hodgson's much-maligned period as manager of Liverpool in 2010 and a smidgeon of 2011 was dreadful, and the players he signed in the summer of 2010 were some of the worst in Reds history. Although not the worst purchase of the lot, in hindsight, Hodgson's decision to bring Brad Jones to Anfield was an extremely baffling one. Having joined Middlesbrough back in 2001, Jones had barely ever managed to hold down a spot as first-choice goalkeeper at the Riverside Stadium. The Australian had been sent off on loan to the likes of Stockport County, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday, and had never been anything more than an average lower league 'keeper. Somehow, Hodgson seemed to think Jones would be a good addition at Anfield, and signed him for £2.3m. Since then he has done nothing to suggest he's not out of his depth, and there are simply so many better options than him across the country. In total he has made 22 appearances for Liverpool, including a woeful display which helped them get knocked out of the 2012/13 FA Cup against Oldham. His time on Merseyside needs to come to an end sooner rather than later.
