10 Strangest Ever Spurs Signings

6. Jimmy Walker

Nick Potts/PA Archive/Press Association ImagesNick Potts/PA Archive/Press Association ImagesOn a number of occasions in recent years, Spurs have made some bizarre and highly unnecessary signings on the goalkeeper front - no more so than with the acquisition of Jimmy Walker. The 36 year old - a man who had played the majority of his career (up until he was 31, in fact) at Walsall - was brought in as a completely unnecessary fourth choice stopper. Spurs' squad at the time still included Heurelho Gomes, Carlo Cudicini and Ben Alnwick, as well as a couple of youngsters, and Walker never got anywhere near the first team. Unsurprisingly, he returned to Walsall, as a 37 year old, a mere one year later, where he played up until last year before retiring. Dave Beasant, Ben Alnwick, César Sánchez and Stipe Pletikosa have all been brought to White Hart Lane in similar unnecessary circumstances in recent years, but none were more bizarre than the signing of an ageing goalkeeper who had spent most of his career in the lower leagues.
