10 Talking Points Behind UFC 176's Cancellation

8. Bad Exposure To Mainstream Networks

Despite their relationship with Fox Sports 1, the UFC is still persistent on being associated with the likes of ESPN and Sports Illustrated. Dana White will take his opportunities to go on Sports Center or take over the ESPN twitter account. He still wants the sport to be recognized as the biggest sport in the world. That goal still has a ways to go, especially when events are being cancelled. You'll always hear the constant comparison between MMA and boxing. The major sport outlets will bring up how boxing does less shows, yet they never had to cancel a major event. While they pride themselves on being a more consistent and entertaining product, it still looks extremely bad to cancel an actual pay-per-view. That will lead to casual fans losing even more faith in the product. With the UFC still trying to push themselves into the mainstream, they've done themselves no favors by canceling a second pay-per-view in three years.
