10 Things (Other Than Money) Used To Purchase Footballers

1. Marius Cioara - 15kg Of Sausages

The Transfer: UT Arad (Romania) to Regal Hornia (Romania). The Year: 2006. The Fee: 15kg of sausages. Without a doubt the most insulting transfer fee of all time (especially given the year), Romanian defender Marius Cioara was moved between a pair of clubs in the lower echelons of Romanian football in exchange for 15kg of sausages (not even close to his own weight!)! Such was the effect of the deal on the player (he was understandably widely mocked by those around him), he actually chose to retire from football just one day after move and started to work on a farm instead - with Regal Hornia hilariously insisting that they receive a refund on their fee of succulent Romanian pork as a result. So there you have it - ten things other than money used to purchase footballers. Did you enjoy this article? Were you aware of the transfers on this list?
